Sooo, I haven't posted in a while, but here is what I am currently working on.

http://www.arena.net/blog/now-accepting-applications-for-arenanet-class-of-2013-internship

Arenanet, on of my favorite video game studios of all time, is accepting year long art interns.

Here is the concept I am working from, provided by ArenaNet. =)

So, I picked a character and started modeling, this is, I started pretty late so things are tight.

Here is a picture of the highpoly model I have so far.. The color is really rough and was just me playing around to get a feel of what it would look like.

I am now uv mapping the lowpoly model I made, but no time for pics of that...

Till next time, and wish me speed and luck!

Been a while since my last post, but that doesn't mean I haven't been doing stuff..
Here are a bunch of current and recent things!

I'll start off with my current projects first. Here are a couple of things that are works in progress..

First, this is the dragon rider I have been working on. I have the block in for most of the parts, there are a few missing. Everything needs to be detailed, textured, and then retopologized in game rez..
I have put this project on hold for a little bit though, to work on another 3d project.

This necromancer. I saw on polycount that Mixamo was doing a contest for character creation, and I thought it would be fun to throw something in. So here is a paintover concept.

I have a lot of the high rez mesh blocked out and fairly detailed. I really need to cram though to get this thing done in time!

Here is a painting I have been working on. I am having a tough time getting it to be what I want, so I just keep fiddling with it.

This stuff is recent finished stuff. pretty random assortment..

That is all for now, I should keep things updated on the works in progress in the coming days. I have really learned a lot about zbrush from doing these characters though. I really should start cranking characters out like this and I should get pretty good. I really should make a male base mesh soon after these characters are done!

Dragon Rider, and more...

Hey,
I got some stuff here to show, and i just added some stuff to thee character paintings section..
First this is a model sheet I have been working on.
I started with the look from the Dragon Rider illustration as my concept, and worked from there.

I would really love to model this if I have the time.. I have sort of abandoned my last few models because I learned so much while doing them, that the problems they had really bugged me..

I split the model sheet into three layers so that it will be way easier to model from. Also, when it is done, I will have a character that could have multiple costume sets.

Next here is a big ogre monster, fighting a native american, in a future Rome/asian battle dome...
This was loads of fun to do!

Here is some other random stuff that I did...

That is all for right now! I hope you enjoyed, till next time..

Aquamancer

I lied about variety, more fantasy stuff. I promise myself that I will do more different stuff to put up here soon though..
I did the initial sketch for this when I started the necromancer, but I chose to finish him first.
I put a background in this one because the character looks good against the darker colors.

Thats all for now! Till next time!

Royal Necromancer

Here is the painting I was talking about yesterday. I think that it really helped me achieve a new level of polish for costume design. My knight was more hard surfaces, but this guy has a good mixture of cloth and metal. I also got to do some magic effects, which is usually fun.
I decided against doing a background for this guy because I really wanted to emphasize the character.

I think that getting some more genre variety is probably the next order of business for this blog..
Sci-fi, post apocalyptic, modern, I need to do more of those.

Recent Digital Work

Well, I was gonna post earlier because I thought I could finish the piece that I am currently working on for today. I still have some finishing touches to do though. It isn't worth it for me to rush personal works when so much of the polishing really boosts my skills.

Anyway, here is some of my recent stuff.
I am concentrating heavily on starting strong characters through honing my wacom sketching skills, then when I have something that catches my eye, I am working hard to improve my rendering and polishing skills.

I've really fallen in love with overlay layers. They are so useful to both start a painting by quicly blocking in colors, or finish a grayscale painting by adding colors and adjusting light and dark. They are super useful for light effects like glowing and for other effects such as texturing. I still need to be careful using these though, because it is easy to overuse them. So I still do most of my painting on normal layers.

That is pretty much it for today. I will post the painting I am currently working on soon, and I also have some sketches to scan and post.

So, until next time!

Ooh, long time no blog....

Where to start?

Well I have been working hard on honing my pencil skills.

I have been practicing a lot from life and photographs. From there I have been working hard on transferring things learned from that to my non-reffed pieces.

From there I have been also working on expanding my knowledge of different media. I am going further into watercolor, and I also have found a real love for ink!

Heh, sorry for the image heavy post. It was much easier to show what I have been doing than to need to explain it! I think that I will do another post tomorrow about the digital work that I have been doing.
