Heyya,

Here are a couple things for the blog!
I just thought I should put this work in progress shot of the centaur warrior I am working on. I also updated a bunch of paintings in the paintings section.
I don't usually post stuff here as often as I do on conceptart.org, but it is good to post here once in a while.

Hey!
Here is an update on my Necromancer model.

Here is what I have atm..

Still some work to do on the corset, and I need to make a staff..

Deadline is the 31st, so gotta get it done by then..

Been a while since my last post, but that doesn't mean I haven't been doing stuff..
Here are a bunch of current and recent things!

I'll start off with my current projects first. Here are a couple of things that are works in progress..

First, this is the dragon rider I have been working on. I have the block in for most of the parts, there are a few missing. Everything needs to be detailed, textured, and then retopologized in game rez..
I have put this project on hold for a little bit though, to work on another 3d project.

This necromancer. I saw on polycount that Mixamo was doing a contest for character creation, and I thought it would be fun to throw something in. So here is a paintover concept.

I have a lot of the high rez mesh blocked out and fairly detailed. I really need to cram though to get this thing done in time!

Here is a painting I have been working on. I am having a tough time getting it to be what I want, so I just keep fiddling with it.

This stuff is recent finished stuff. pretty random assortment..

That is all for now, I should keep things updated on the works in progress in the coming days. I have really learned a lot about zbrush from doing these characters though. I really should start cranking characters out like this and I should get pretty good. I really should make a male base mesh soon after these characters are done!

Dragon Rider, and more...

Hey,
I got some stuff here to show, and i just added some stuff to thee character paintings section..
First this is a model sheet I have been working on.
I started with the look from the Dragon Rider illustration as my concept, and worked from there.

I would really love to model this if I have the time.. I have sort of abandoned my last few models because I learned so much while doing them, that the problems they had really bugged me..

I split the model sheet into three layers so that it will be way easier to model from. Also, when it is done, I will have a character that could have multiple costume sets.

Next here is a big ogre monster, fighting a native american, in a future Rome/asian battle dome...
This was loads of fun to do!

Here is some other random stuff that I did...

That is all for right now! I hope you enjoyed, till next time..

Aquamancer

I lied about variety, more fantasy stuff. I promise myself that I will do more different stuff to put up here soon though..
I did the initial sketch for this when I started the necromancer, but I chose to finish him first.
I put a background in this one because the character looks good against the darker colors.

Thats all for now! Till next time!

Royal Necromancer

Here is the painting I was talking about yesterday. I think that it really helped me achieve a new level of polish for costume design. My knight was more hard surfaces, but this guy has a good mixture of cloth and metal. I also got to do some magic effects, which is usually fun.
I decided against doing a background for this guy because I really wanted to emphasize the character.

I think that getting some more genre variety is probably the next order of business for this blog..
Sci-fi, post apocalyptic, modern, I need to do more of those.

Recent Digital Work

Well, I was gonna post earlier because I thought I could finish the piece that I am currently working on for today. I still have some finishing touches to do though. It isn't worth it for me to rush personal works when so much of the polishing really boosts my skills.

Anyway, here is some of my recent stuff.
I am concentrating heavily on starting strong characters through honing my wacom sketching skills, then when I have something that catches my eye, I am working hard to improve my rendering and polishing skills.

I've really fallen in love with overlay layers. They are so useful to both start a painting by quicly blocking in colors, or finish a grayscale painting by adding colors and adjusting light and dark. They are super useful for light effects like glowing and for other effects such as texturing. I still need to be careful using these though, because it is easy to overuse them. So I still do most of my painting on normal layers.

That is pretty much it for today. I will post the painting I am currently working on soon, and I also have some sketches to scan and post.

So, until next time!

3D Anime Character

I have been wondering for a while how cartooney games like Eternal Sonata and Kingdom Hearts make their simple styles work so well.

I decided to experiment with that and try to make a model that looks comparable. This is what I have so far.

I started by painting this simple model sheet. I wanted to keep details to a minimum, but still give the character some... well character...

I then went on to modelling.

Next I'm working on UV mapping, texturing and hair..

I figure that the texturing will need to be smooth gradients and flat colors with some texture. I highly doubt that  normal maps will be necessary. Specular maps might be interesting. I should experiment with different shading networks to get a cartoon look, I think that will be important.

Till next time!

Orc Warrior Model

Hey, it has been a little while since my last post. But I thought it might be a good time to do some updating here!

I have this model of an orc creature that I did in Zbrush, and I have been trying to figure out what to do with it. I decided that I would have a little fun with it, and play around with a few different options, and experiment a little.

I decided that the first thing I would try is a paintover! I took the untextured render and I have redesigned him by painting new features, a new color scheme, and an overall different look.

I'm gonna try out some other stuff, and post it later maybe.. I think I like the paintover versions design better. Maybe if I bring this to game res I will retexture it like this..

Ninja Gladiator Painting

Hey, here is the other painting I mentioned in my last post.

I have been wanting to do a fighter character in the fantasy genre for a while now. I just was busy with some other things.

Here is a small wip sheet.

Click to get a closer look!

I'm still working on that UDK level, but I don't really have enough to show at the moment to justify another post.

Maybe tomorrow I will...

Ghost Princess Painting

I really liked the ghost princess on my princess concept sheet so I figured that I would try to take it a bit further and see where it got to.

Here is what it got to when I finished.

I'm pretty happy with the results, and I learned a lot in the process.

So, here is what I went through to finish it.

Click for a closer look!

Well that is all for now, but I do have another painting  in progress, and I am still chipping away at that UDK project. More stuff later!

More Environments

Here are the environments I did today and yesterday.

Snow and Jungle..

After I did the snow scene, I watched some tutorials on youtube. I think that they really helped me understand depth much better. Here is one of the ones that I watched

I made a progress animation for the snow scene.

Click on it to view the animation.
